Chimney repair in Chicago

The chimney takes the worst of Chicago weather. We repair crowns, tuckpoint worn joints, replace damaged brick and rebuild chimneys above the roofline.

Signs your chimney needs repair

  • Crumbling mortar or loose bricks on the chimney
  • A cracked or broken crown (the slab on top)
  • Bricks flaking or breaking apart
  • Water stains on walls or ceilings near the chimney
  • Gaps where the chimney meets the roof

Not sure? Send us a few photos and we’ll tell you what the wall needs.

How we do it

  1. 01

    Inspect the chimney

We look at the crown, the brick, the mortar joints and the roofline.

  2. 02

    Repair or replace

Crowns are rebuilt, joints repointed and damaged brick replaced.

  3. 03

    Rebuild if needed

When the brick is too far gone for a repair, we rebuild the chimney above the roof.

  4. 04

    Seal and finish

The area where the chimney meets the roof is sealed and the work is cleaned up.

Frequently asked questions

What is a chimney crown and why does it matter?

The crown is the slab on top of the chimney. It sheds water away from the brick. A cracked crown lets water into the chimney, which speeds up damage.

When does a chimney need rebuilding instead of repair?

When bricks are loose or deteriorated deep into the structure, tuckpointing alone won’t hold. We inspect it and recommend what actually makes sense.

Can you repair a leaning chimney?

A leaning chimney needs to be looked at in person. Send us photos or call us and we’ll arrange a visit.
